Why you have to fail at your stupid goal

I want abs

I want them. I’ve wanted them since early school days. It’s well known that many guys want them too. I’m not talking about the faint ones you get when you’re really skinny and you tense up. I’m talking about the fully visible abs that you can’t deny. It’s a stupid goal. What do abs do?

Not a lot. Probably But I wouldn’t know. Because I never got there. I never really tried.

But that’s the point

Some things you just have to see for yourself to know

I don’t think that feeling of wanting abs ever went away, nor do I think it ever will. The only thing I am sure of is that until I know I can or can’t get them, or if I do or don’t really want them, I will always have it in the back of my mind.

The only way to get past my stupid goal is to attempt it. It doesn’t even really have a priority, though I’m sure as time goes on it’ll become harder.

Even failure is better than no attempt because at least then I know and it can leave my mind. I can be at peace. I can make space for better, more important goals.

Just humour yourself

This year, just for the sake of it, attempt your stupid goal. Just take the smallest action to begin it. For me that would be super simple:

  • Google “Ab Workout”
  • Pick the first result, regardless of how correct it is
  • Go to the gym (Or at home on the floor?)
  • Follow the instructions
  • Repeat and review in like a week or so

The smallest action being “google it” or “ChatGPT” if that is what floats your boat ⛵

Is it really a stupid goal?

You might not think my goal is stupid. Or you might have cringed at reading that first heading. Your goal might feel stupid but perhaps its not so stupid. My goal does feel stupid to me, but when I think about the real benefits, at least I can come up with some.

  • Abs look good. If I look good I’ll feel more confident.
  • Working out is healthy. If I have a reason to exercise, other areas of my life will improve.
  • Physical attractiveness can improve your chances for opportunities and success.

Can you come up with some reasons why your seemingly stupid goal has benefits? I bet you can. Maybe coming up with those reasons can be your smallest action.

It’s a new year, there will be lots of new goals. I’m sure I’ll have more goals in the coming posts but I’ll put it here now that one of my goals this year is abs.

Do it.
